Asia’s Next Top Model Cycle 5 Episode 4 Review + Amiciness Picks

Tu, Cindy and Alicia in Asia's Next Top Model Cycle 5 Episode 4 5x04

Asia’s premiere modelling competition is back for Asia’s Next Top Model Cycle 5 Episode 4. This time it’s a group shoot. With Yu Tsai behind the lens, to boot. Read on for my Asia’s Next Top Model Cycle 5 Episode 4 review and how the girls fared in their photo shoot this week.

I like this theme better than last week. The styling is more on point for all of the girls. The clothes for each girl have their individual styles but cohesive as a group. What I don’t understand though is the low camera angle. Yu Tsai shot the girls low to the ground, but as you can see in the final results, that angle is not flattering for almost all of them.

That aside, most of the girls brought their A-game this week. So who among the girls who stood tall and who stumbled out and under the bus? Here are my Top 3 and Bottom 3 photos for this week…

Top 3

Shikin

Effortless, fierce, chic. Even if she was placed to the side, your eyes can’t help but focus on her. The face is strong and fierce. The way she stands there with her back bent and one hand on hip looks so powerful. As I mentioned in my recap, Shikin saves this photo.

Nametha

Another week means another shoot to slay for Nametha. And she did just that. The face is stunning even with all of those jewelry covering her. My only complaint is her pose from the waist down. I don’t think that pose goes well with that short skirt, but it does look rebellious.

Tu

Doesn’t this pose remind you of her PR photos before the show? I guess that’s Tu’s signature pose with this hairstyle? She was the best in her group photo. And in fact, this is my favorite group photo, and it probably owes to Tu’s great presence. She’s not overpowering the others but powerful on her own nonetheless.

Bottom 3

Clara

In contrast to Nametha’s, Clara’s jewelry looked like it wore her instead of the other way around. And it’s not just her jewelry. She’s also not showing the clothes probably. That jacket doesn’t give her shape. It probably was a mistake that they chose this group photo for them because Nametha, front and center, commanded all of the attention.

Dorothy

This is still an okay photo for Dorothy, but compared to her last two photos, this seemed pretty lackluster. The clothes are pretty much on point for her. And that pose, though it looked hard to create, looks great. But the hair and the facial expression: what was that all about? She downright looks exasperated. Or pissed at the photographer. Or both, probably.

Layla

Speaking of exasperated, here’s Layla. She looked defeated this whole episode, well actually since the beginning of this cycle. She has the ingredients for being a great high-fashion model and I guess it’s for the better that she’s out of the show. I see she’s been booking modelling jobs left and right, so good for Layla. 😊

Episode 4 Review

Good Girls v Bad Girls ad nauseum

This good versus bad girls thing they’ve been doing needs to stop. ASAP. It jumped the shark the moment the twins “devise” a “plan” to “infiltrate” and “spy” on the “bad girls” in the other room. OH COME ON! What is this, an early noughties Disney Channel show? “I’m Valerie. I’m Veronika. And we are twins. And you’re watching Disney Channel.”

Social Media Challenge

I like this challenge. I especially like how they mentioned that social media is an important part of being, not just a model, but also a role model to other people. But did they really have to wake the girls up so early? Doing the #IWokeUpLikeThis photo challenge doesn’t require that it be early in the morning. It just requires you to, you know, wake up… whatever time of day that is. It’s not the #IWokeUpInTheEarlyMorningLikeThis challenge, right?

Where In the World is Pia Wurtzbach?

Has anyone seen Pia? We’ve not gotten a video message from her for two weeks now. Has she gone missing? Oh wait, no. She was busy hosting the Binibining Pilipinas 2017 last weekend and mentoring a different set of girls. How about these girls, Pia? 😂
