5 TV Moments That Would Make You Unexpectedly Tear Up (or Ugly Cry)

Do you ever find yourself tearing up while watching TV series whether its comedy, drama or just any genre? Well, I have and here’s a list of the many moments in TV (that I know of) that got me drowning in my tears on my pillow.

Warning: There WILL be spoilers after the jump.

1. Game of Thrones – Lady Was Put to Death (SO1E01)

Episode 1 introduced us to the six Stark direwolves that the company of Ned Stark found in the woods. One of which was Lady. Sansa Stark’s direwolf aptly named for the delicate and precious little lady of House Stark.  Also, in this episode, we witnessed how the direwolf grew into large beasts that, of course, we loved just the same as our favorite Starks. But came episode 2 (or the last scene of the pilot) where little by little, GOT got really serious in breaking our emotionally invested hearts.

After Bran fell from the tower, (yes, I cried about that too) everything in GOT just became and felt so tentative. I would watch the show on tipped toes cautiously waiting for something suspenseful to happen. Then it happened, the first death of a “main” character. Arya had a misunderstanding with Joffrey that resulted to the execution of a butcher boy and since Nymeria (Arya’s direwolf) was nowhere to be found, naturally, Lady was killed on her behalf.

During the last scenes, I was hoping that a miracle would happen like Nymeria magically appearing to save Lady or just anything. AND to make the situation even more painful Ned personally killed Lady with his sword.

RIP Lady S01E01 — S01E02

Trivia: Sophie Turner, the actress playing Sansa, adopted Zunni the dog playing Lady in real life.

2. Big Bang Theory – Howard’s Song for Bernadette (S07E06)

Well, I’m sure you did not expect Big Bang Theory to be part of this list but sometimes, comedies push some of my emotional buttons. In SO7E06, Howard and Bernadette had a fight about Howard spending more time with his friends. To make up, Howard planned a date and sang (with everyone in the background) an original song for his wife. How sweet!!

I couldn’t have imagined how good my life would get
From the moment that I met you, Bernadette

I especially loved the way Howard’s voice cracked in the song like he was about to cry.

3. Parks and Recreation – Citizen Knope (S04E10)

If you do watch Parks and Recreation, you will love Leslie Knope. She just has this over-the-top vibrant and enthusiastic personality that can turn a glass of water to a Long Island iced tea. In this episode, Leslie was experiencing a downward spiral in terms of her career (she was on forced leave and campaigning for city council.)

She was on suspension and her campaign team dropped her due to her low approval ratings, all caused by her scandalous relationship with Ben. Amid all her problems, she did not miss out on giving her friends and colleagues unbelievably thoughtful Christmas gifts. Every year, Leslie does this without expecting something in return, just out of pure love and gratitude for her friends; just like how Leslie is as a person.

The gang decided to give back and build her a miniature model of the Parks and Recreation office made of ginger bread, not to mention, become Leslie’s campaign team.

What made me emotional about this scene was the fact that in the previous episodes/seasons, Leslie was always giving and giving. And it was about time that people around her give back and show her appreciation.

4. Suits – Grams’s Passing (S02E21)

Nothing makes my eyes turn to waterfalls more than touching scenes that include elderly characters. I cried when Grams of The Vampire Diairies died. I cried when Mrs. Karen McCluskey of Desperate Housewives passed away. So yeah, I have soft spot for grandmas.

RIP Grams (S01E01 — S02E21)

One of my favorite grandson-grandparent relationships was Mike’s and his grandma’s. Mike would regularly visit his Grams (as he called her) in the nursing home. I kind of expected that Mike’s grandmother would die anytime in Season 1. However, she survived until Episode 21 of Season 2. The anticipation could have added to the emotions I felt once it actually happened.

Here’s a tribute video for Grams I found:

What made her death sadder was that Mike was saving up to get a bigger apartment so he and his Grams could stay in one place together. My heart hurts while writing this.

5. Super Fun Night – Kimmie’s Heart Get Broken (S01E03)

Since I just found out that Super Fun Night was cancelled by ABC, I dedicated this last slot to one of my favorite shows.

Kimmie, who has a long time crush on her colleague/best friend Richard, helped him prepare for the office Halloween party. While picking up costumes, Richard gave signals that gave the wrong idea that he actually liked Kimmie back. Being the vulnerable and innocent girl that Kimmie was, she planned a sexy surprise for Richard inside her office to proclaim her love.

They went to the party in a couple’s costume as a “chick” and a “magnet.”

Get it? Chick + Magnet = Chick Magnet.

The sexy surprise involved Kimmie slipping into a sexy lady vampire outfit (Richard previously mentioned that as a teenager he would always fantasize about sexy lady vampires.)

Richard: “You’re lady vampire.”

Kimmie: “Yes.”

Richard: “And you’re trying to be sexy for me… because you like me?”

Kimmie: “Yes.”

Sensing that she was not getting the reaction that she expected, Kimmie plays it off as a prank. She also then noticed silver paint on his face, realizing that he had been fooling around with Kendall, who came in the room and pulled Richard back to the party.

Alone in her office, Kimmie accidentally triggered the fireworks her friend Marika prepared, which naturally also triggered the fire sprinklers, leaving her soaked in water while crying pathetically in a lady vampire costume. Aww. Unrequited love is </3.

Of course, some might disagree with my list. Some might find an entry as unworthy or shallow, but, personally, I really did shed a tear or two (or more) while I was watching them.

How about you? What’s your favorite TV moment that made you cry?
