Last time on Asia’s Next Top Model, May got the best performance last week and, having been the week’s winner, she will fly to New York for Maybelline’s New York Fashion Week. Lucky girl! Unlucky is Jessica from Hong Kong who has been eliminated. (Funnily enough, Jessica has already walked the runway for NYFW previously. She got there first! Haha.) Only 8 girls remain… who will become Asia’s. Next. Top. Model.

May can’t believe that she’s won a trip to NYC. Julian also can’t believe she’s in the bottom two for two weeks in a row. Sang In is sad that Jessica’s gone home. She cries in the closet. Aww… #sisters
Challenge: ZALORA
Cindy Mail! The clue is about paying close attention to details. Hmm… The girls head to a ZALORA pop up store and we see a lot of items in different colors. Clothes, shoes, hats, accessories, everything! Immediately, Daniel notices that someone is missing. SANG IN IS SICK! Oh noes! Jessica leaving took the best of her. BUT WAIT, I take that back. Someone calls and she’s on her way. Sang In’s late entrance is the definition of D-R-A-M-A.
Surprise! Sang In is here!
The ZALORA challenge is a team challenge with a twist. The girls are paired and each team is randomly assigned with a color theme. They each have to style themselves with ZALORA items in their respective color.
This week the girls’ are learning about fashion styling with the help of ZALORA’s Meghna Mistry.
- Tuti & Patricia – Blue
- May & Tawan – Green
- Aldilla & Angie – Red
- Julian & Sang In – Yellow
And guess what? They’re competing with their teammates.
Patricia has chosen a great color for her but she should have ditched the gold necklace. Tuti does a great job with her blue overalls. She has paid close attention to the details. Meghna can see her as a face of a top brand campaign. Aldilla also looks chic. Daniel likes Angie’s outfit since it successfully combines different shades of red. Tawan looks like a star especially with the sunglasses on. May chose an outfit perfect for the summer (though it’s mint green)! Sang In and Julian also have done well in the challenge. Julian’s hat really made an impression.
The winners for each match-up are Julian, Tuti, Aldilla and Tawan. Overall, Tuti wins and she gets a ZALORA shopping spree. She can take home anything she likes from the pop-up store!

Six weeks into the competition, all the girls get a phone call home. The winners get 15 minutes while the losers get 10.
Challenge scores are in. Julian gets the second spot! Sang In’s mom is surprised that she wasn’t sent home. HAHA. Everyone’s crying. It’s been 6 weeks since they’ve last been with their families. OMG Julian’s speaking in Filipino. She says that she’s losing hope and is wanting to back out. NO JULIAN NO!!!

Oh my, it’s Yu Tsai again! – Tuti
Looks like Yu Tsai is here to stay. Where the hell is Kelly? The girls will be shooting on a boat with the Singapore landscape as the backdrop. The winner will be the face of ZALORA for 2016. WOW! This is big, you guys!
Sang In is first and she kills it! She’s used to Yu Tsai’s yelling, she said. Patricia does a lot of kung fu kicking and it isn’t working. Yu Tsai reminds her to focus on the brand. Angie is also struggling. She’s doing this hair flop a la Monica of Cycle 3. She gets the shot! May is also intimidated by Yu Tsai. Obviously, “Are you intimidated by Yu Tsai?” is this week’s interview question.
Do nothing May. When you do nothing, it’s everything! – Yu Tsai to Mai
Julian is pressured to do well but everything she does seems wrong. Yu Tsai gets frustrated with her and her mouth, especially. Julian hopes that someone does worse than her. BAD! Haha!

Aldilla also struggles. She’s not in her zone. She is disappointed with her performance. So is Yu Tsai. Tawan is next. Cindy asks Tawan to roar to unleash the tiger in her! Tawan transforms into a gangster! I love it! Wow, Tuti’s outfit is really nice. She does dress well. Watch out girls, Tuti is in it to win it!

The judging panel this week is Meghna Mistry, Yu Tsai and Cindy Bishop.
Again, where’s Kelly?
This week is about the art of styling and color coordination.
Tuti – She could be an international model. The backdrop could have been nicer though. She kills it.
Tawan – Her picture looks awesome and it has serious attitude. BUT one of her toes has a life of its own. She is literally not modelling from H to T.
Julian – Her mouth is distracting. Yu Tsai says she looks like a fish out of water. Cindy mentions Yu Tsai stopped talking during her photoshoot. Yu Tsai hopes Julian stays for another week.
May – She is overpowered by her outfit. Her lack of experience may be her biggest liability.
Patricia – Her film didn’t look good because of all the kicking shots. In her best photo, she looks short. Yu Tsai admires Pat’s energy on set but it needs to be controlled.
Sang In – She understands who she is and how to transform herself as a ZALORA girl. This photo is a bit underwhelming for me. Just a bit.
Aldilla – Her best photo can be better. Yu Tsai likes her face but Cindy disagrees. She doesn’t look comfortable.
Angie – She sighs when she sees her photo. She makes Yu Tsai angry when she mentions she got confused with his directions. Angie tells Yu Tsai he should minimize the yelling just bit. Yu Tsai snaps but in a moment, Angie apologizes and everything’s happily ever after.
Except for the eliminated girl, of course.
Yu Tsai reitirates that he is here to help them. The girls need not be scared. Everything’s done out of love. <3 #YuTsaiCares

Sang In photo’s a bit boring. I like Tawan’s pic better. The theme this week is really boring.

I just dont understand why Sang In won the best photo? Her photo showed same facial expression. Well I guess asntm only want an ‘asian’ (chinese) faces. they need to mention, ‘only Truly Asian (chinese) faces should join and win’ . blerghh.
I’m confused at the photoshoot’s concept. Not only the moving boat, but the clothes too, these clothes doesn’t seem to be the clothes you would normally wear. I thought only May and Julian have the ‘wearable ones’
Best:
1. Sang In- the photo is good and fits the theme well(though Im not really sure what the theme was). I feel like she always had to get sick so that she can earn an FCO lol
2. Tuti- again, very consistent. But i thought this really didnt fit the theme well.
3. Julian- the good thing about Julian’s photos (except the comp card thingy) is that it always seems to tell us a story. I actually liked her pose here, though it doesnt seem to fit the theme too

7. Angie- i like how shes trying to variate her poses each week. But in this photo, its like all her body parts are rotating in different directions, waiting to be dismembered. A bit scary.

I just have to say that Julian is so underrated this week, and sure, her open mouth thing is distracting, but to be honest, Sang In also does the same distracting mouth thing too. If she can get away with it, how can Julian not??
I think Sang In won best photo because she’s zalora-ish material (expression, pose etc), which was what the client want. I dont think it’s because of her spesific face type (‘asian’ chinese as you said).
Tuti’s pic is great.. but…mmmm… yea.. maybe it did not really suit the client’s taste.
Tawan’s: like the expression, not so much the pose… it looks weird
Julian: I don’t think she deserved to be in the bottom two. It was not that bad
May: I agree with the judges that the outfit owned her instead of the other way around
Pat: o man… its painful to watch her on set… what is with all that kicking! Sigh… and yea, I dont like her photo. Weird angle esp waist up
Angie: another sigh… while I admire her tenacity in trying to make the hair flipping works, I really think she should have just tried something else
Aldila: Noo! She’s one of my favorite… I see big potential in her but week after week she failed to deliver… I guess it was really time for her to go :'(
In the end, I only like sang in’s and tuti’s photos. The other are just…..
The most ironic thing here is : Julian’s [pouty] lips which has got Kelly Tandiono something unique to die for..even at times calling Julian Angelina Jolie from the Philippines….is valued nothing, zero, zip, zilch by the great Yu Tsai….calling it like a fish mouth as it comes out of water gasping for air… A person’s treasure is another person’s garbage…least to say..LOL.
In this photoshoot Julian did not do justice at all by the feature of her mouth…so I am quite confused why many of still call it good modeling…..just because she is the LAST HOPE for the Philippines….????? Meh face, awkward body posing, and most importantly the horrendous duck lips on Julian…She SHOULD HAVE GONE HOME!! Not Aldilla

Thats why they kept Julian. Because of you and of course all of Filipinos will become eagerly crazierrrr to watch thus higher up the rating! LOL. Julian was nothing compare to Monika or Jodily. Poor other great models. It was well planned tv show.
Couldn’t agree more on that, Anonymous. AsNTM is a tv show that has predetermined their contestants’ winner and runner-ups (who must always have a Philippines’ representative as one of the Top 3 in every cycle, for the sake of the rating).
I don’t think Sang In’s winning is not predetermined as well. She does not have enough edginess and modeling skills as Jessica, the winner of cycle 1, whom I truly admire as a professional model.
Having known that this show is under very tight budgeting (as AsNTM3 had no international destination), this cycle does have one, i.e. to South Korea, the home country of the winner. As far as we can (suspiciously) speculate that the producers of AsNTM has to reward the winner title to South Korea, in exchange of some substantial money they recieve from Korea’s …as long as the winner is Sang In. That includes of course free visiting and filming there as its international destination.
Oh, I see. Kinda make sense what did you said. I have been following since AsNTM C1, and yet I found this tv show getting low on budget (same boring theme photoshoot, more on indoor shoots, and plus SPONSOR SHOOT like most of the week!. I dont mind the sponsor shoot, its just they were boring and boring and the theme obs not thinking out of the box.
Honestly, Sang In is pretty, it just I found other girls is stronger than her. Idk. my opinion.. If that so, What do you think of Winner AsNTM C2? Sheena. Are you thinking that she won because of her high fashion look/shots or because of her homeland (sponsorship)?
Sheena is not that bad as a model herself, yet we can clearly see there were other girls in her cycle that have more modeling skills than her, most notably Marie Nakagawa from Japan…. As fishy as it would seem, a factor of favoritism and the show’s sponsorship may play a role in her winning over Jodilly (Philippine’s contestant) and Marie…let alone Katarina (who was supposed to had gone home in the first half of that cycle, yet got through all the way to top 3, lame choice, everyone??)
Hahaha ikr! Katarina just not fit for top 3! And if there was still Marie in the top 3, I think she would take the title!
But I just love with Sheena finale photoshoot compared with Jodily. And during the runway, both of them nailed it. Except Katarina. Shes so stiff! Lol
Somehow its a tv show. Anything can happen. like you said, factor of favouritism. XD
