#AsNTM2 Episode 2: “The Girl Who Attracts a Following”

I guess the goal of this episode is to teach the girls how to be relevant in the world wide web. In the age of social media represented by Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, this may be a “skill” that a modern model must have in her pocket. After all, social media are means to promote oneself and showcase one’s personality to the public.

Here are some of the highlights of episode 2.

WARNING: SPOILERS AFTER THE JUMP.

1. Nicole’s Breakdown and Crazy Moments

The episode started with Nicole’s breakdown after last week’s judging. Nicole has MAJOR issues. At least, she realized that after punching a very innocent promo board. She blamed it on hormones. Yeah, right.

2. Selfie Challenge

How do we really define selfie? Is it a solo picture or a picture you’ve taken yourself? The challenge was to take selfies in the streets. I found the challenge sloppy and unnecessary.

The editing also appeared messy. I was confused about what’s happening.

The top 3 from last week got to choose their teammates; we have 3 groups of 4. Nicole and Sneha weren’t picked so they teamed up for the challenge.

Challenge Winner: Poojaa

She chose Katarina to come along with her on a relaxing overnight at a beautiful beachfront resort. They went there after their photoshoot.

3. Sneha vs. Janice

Sneha lived up to her promise from last week that she does not like her things all tidy and this really bothered Janice. Janice confronted Sneha and, as expected, she was offended. They started addressing themselves as “man.” Oh my God, these girls.

Sneha defended that her suitcase was really small so she just decided to put her pile of clothes in her personal area.

Good thing, no one ended up breaking someone’s high fashion cheekbone. Stop fighting!

In the end, the clothes were still on a messy pile, left on the floor. NICE.

4. Catfights

After the judging (correct me if I’m wrong), Tia, Sneha and Janice went to the bathroom. Then, Katarina asked Janice if Tia has a problem with her (correct me again). Janice nodded. This started catfight no. 2

Katarina Vs. Tia (*Ding-Ding*)

I did not honestly understand what they were saying. They were calling each other names. (Spoiled brat, Princess, etc.). Oh my God, the fight was so pointless. Basically, Katarina did not like Tia’s attitude and thought that Tia was not a good role model to little girls. I’m sorry, I really got lost with this fight.

Meanwhile, Janice decided to continue his fight with Sneha. (Cue in catfight no. 3.)

Janice vs. Sneha (*Ding-Ding*)

I also don’t know what got into this pair. I do know that Janice scared most of the girls and Sneha was not your ordinary timid Indian girl watched in reruns of Outsourced.

Watch out next week for another series of catfights!

*Word of Advice to the Girls: Act like ladies please. Cycle 1 did not have catfights at this level. Gosh.

The following were the photo’s rankings in order of call out.

Best Photo: Nicole – FCO. From zero to hero. Nicole rises from her hard, scary photo from last week. She gave a kung fu inspired pose, which worked for the theme.

Jodilly – Jodilly, if I’m not mistaken, was the only one who did a jump shot. It totally worked. I thought that she would win best photo. The photographer said that her shots were all good.

Sheena – Sheena’s photo was oozing with heat. It had attitude and it demanded attention.

Thao

Katarina – Katarina was doing the same poses she did last week. This week, her pose worked with her clothes. Work harder, Katarina!

Natalie – Judges liked how her pose showcased the different layers of the skirt, like she was draping off of the stairs.

Sneha – Sneha looked like a queen. The photo was regal and her look fitted the theme. Because of the shapes she does with her body, Model Mentor Joey called her the Shapeshifter.

Janice – Janice had high fever during the shoot. She took advantage by posing while laying down on the stairs. The judges thought that it was good but it could have been better if she stood. Well, I guess she could not stand at that time.

Josephine – She blended well with the background.

Poojaa

Jihye – Jihye’s picture had everything except a strong facial expression. Her face was blank and it ruined everything for the judges.

Bottom Three:

Marie- Marie’s pose was polarizing. You could only like it or hate it. Bip Ling pointed out that she liked the top half of the picture but wasn’t as sure of the shape of the bottom half. The judges liked it but for me it’s just a variation of her last week’s pose.

Tia- The judges were surprised of Tia’s terrible performance. The photo only showed the bottom part of her face.

Eliminated:

Bona- I really liked Bona because she looked genuinely nice unlike Tia, who seemed to be such a brat. Sadly, Bona’s photo was really awkward and was really the worst of the bunch. This reminded me of last cycle’s Sofia’s “quirky” shot.

Hits

1. Theme – The show was really showcasing Malaysia as they had gone to Batu Caves to shoot with fashion photographer Mau Mauricio. Now, I want to go there!

2. Panel of Judges – There were a lot of people on the judging panel this week. This meant more opinions and less bias.

3. Clothes – The clothes modeled were nice and very ethnic.

Middling

1. I miss Daniel Boey.

1. Challenges – I just don’t get the point of challenges if the girls won’t be judged from them. Challenges are not meant to be a venue for sponsors to promote their products! Challenges are supposed to help the judges get to know the girls’ capabilities aside from the photo shoots.

2. Catfights – Ugh.

NEXT WEEK:

1. More Catfights!

2. “Sky-walking”

3. Modeling at Extremely Cold Temperature

4. Someone will get sick and go home or someone will get sick and return to the show?
