#AsNTM2 Episode 3: “The Girl Who’s Hot When She is Cold” Recap

The episode was tagged as the “most challenging” episode of the show. On the contrary, the episode did not deliver as promised. It was boring and predictable. I’d just hope the next episode would be better.

Anyway, here were some of the highlights of Episode 3.

WARNING: SPOILERS AFTER THE JUMP

1. Tia and Janice are BFFs. – Apparently Tia and Janice were allies. I was a bit confused since Janice was the one that told Katarina that Tia had a problem with her, which started last week’s cat fight.

Also, apparently, Tia thought Katarina was her friend until her outburst. Crazy young girls. Tsk. Tsk.

2. Tia and Herself – The girls complained of how much Tia talked about herself. Tia knew this and she did not care at all. Fine, Tia. KTnxBye.

4. Nicole’s Pool Party- Since Nicole won best photo last week, she and four other girls (Jodilly, Poojaa, Sheena and Janice) had the privilege to have a swim in the penthouse swimming pool where Jackie Chan and Michelle Yao once swam. They enjoyed a buffet, which Sheena would regret later.

5. 10 Second Commercial for Visit Malaysia Campaign- The girls battled with their fear of heights as they had to strut their stuff 1,381 feet above ground on top of Asia’s tallest communication tower, KL Tower. Surprisingly, most of the girls did well.

Runners Up (according to Joey and Adam) – Nicole, Thao and Tia

Winner- Josephine

I’m still quite confused why the challenge results are not being considered in the judging. The shots were not shown to the judges.

I did not like the commercial. Josephine did great. She was brave and confident but the editing looked forced and not at par with the campaigns Malaysia had been releasing in the past.

6. Photo shoot at Snow Walk, i-City – In tonight’s episode, the girls were set to have a lingerie shoot at Snow Walk with a freezing temperature of -5 degrees celsius. Joey and MIke supervised the shoot led by Hong Kong based photographer, Jesper Mcilroy.

The girls were smitten by Jesper who was a former model and was described by the girls as Orlando Bloom-ish. Do you agree?

**OMG. After googling his picture, I found out that Jesper is the same Jesper of Bros United from the other Star World show that I love, The Apartment.
Order of Call Out
Best Photo: Josephine – The judges loved her photo. According to Joey, it’s a good representation of what an Asian model could deliver. They loved her energy and creativity. Maybe it was because of the angles that she created that made the photo more interesting.
Nicole- Nicole’s photo looked androgynous. It was strong as ice. I just did not like the position of her legs. It’s good that she had mastered her facial expressions so quickly.
Sheena- Sheena’s photo was good. Her pose looked chic and very natural. Her hair also matched ice and it seemed that she did not mind it freezing her back.
Katarina- The judges noted how Katarina had been improving. Nadya said that she looked like a cheerleader, the girl next door trying to be tough, etc. She compared her to many thing that I could not recall but I’d compare Katarina’s photo to an FHM cover and I meant that not in a good way.
Natalie- Natalie’s photo stood out as she was the only girl that got down on the snow though it was obvious that her arms looked really awkward.
Tia- Tia’s picture was good but she did do the open-mouth thing again. This made her photo looked cheap.
Thao- I did not like her pose. What’s up with her lingerie? The lingerie looked like an LBD and it made her looked really short.
Poojaa- The judges noted that her pose was exactly the same as her pose from last week’s photo shoot. What they forgot was that this pose was even more exactly the same with Poojaa’s selfie. This was why I was so surprised that she was not in the bottom three.

Jodilly- During the shoot, Jodilly impressed the photographer and he did have good words to say to her: “She’s really a photographer’s dream”. However, her “best photo” did not pass expectations.
Jodilly also mentioned that she was being considered as a threat since she was an experienced model.
Marie- Her photo was just stale. No emotions and bad pose. Marie and Thao almost had the same pose.
**Marie was rushed to the hospital shortly after the judging. She would still be staying in the competition.
Bottom Three
Sneha- Sneha’s photo was good but it reminded me of the Pussycat Dolls. Don’t cha think?
Janice- Janice’s personality was not being reflected in her photos. The judges thought that she was losing her confidence and angst. I found it odd that Janice was always saying that she was aiming to win. Then again, we still had not seen anything strong from her.
Eliminated: Jihye
It was quite obvious after the photo shoot that Jihye was going home. Her facial expressions just did not display the emotions demanded by the theme. A sad Jihye narrated that she was bullied a lot in high school. Hence, she learned to hide her feelings and emotions. This could be the reason why she was having a hard time in her shoots.

Hits
  1. Jesper Mcilroy, the Photographer- This was how I want a photographer to do a photo shoot. He was engaging and he made each girl comfortable. Most importantly, his commentaries were constructive and helpful in judging the girls’ fate in the competition.
Middling
  1. The Challenge-  It seemed that the challenge was overly-hyped to the point that it was disappointing to see the girls nailing the challenge. The challenges should be used to explore the girls’ dynamics in modeling and should be considered in the judging.
  2. The Editing- The editors tried something new. They flashed images of the shots in between scenes from the shoot. Also, it should be said that the editing suggested Jihye’s elimination halfway of the episode, making the results predictable (like last week’s episode).
Misses
  1. Boring Episode-Nothing really exciting happened in this episode. I hope the show would guest more celebrities or experts from the fashion world. I would like to hear other people’s opinions about the girls’ potential to succeed in modeling.
NEXT WEEK!
  1. Makeovers!!!
  2. Family and friends visit the models.
Tell us what you think of tonight’s episode.
