#AsNTM2 Episode 9: “The Girl with a Wild Side” Recap

The girls temporarily leave their city life and gear up to show their “wild” side in AsNTM’s episode 9. They are challenged to spend a night camping in the jungles of Borneo. Now, I want to go to there. It seems that for this cycle, the sponsors are really generous as compared to last year’s.

Here are the highlights of this episode.

1. The Girls Miss Tia – Going back to the house, the girls feel a bit nostalgic about Tia’s departure. They realize that she is not that really bratty but she a sweet and nice girl.

2.  Nicole’s Nth Breakdown – Nicole breaks down AGAIN. And it’s about her bedroom. For some reason (that we may never know), she does not want to sleep upstairs. Like Sheena said, it’s not our business so we won’t comment about it.

Nicole adalah ratu drama. (Nicole is such a drama queen)- Sheena, I just Google translated that. 🙂

3. AsNTM Survivor Edition – The girls are asked to pack clothes for a five-day trip. Sheena decides to bring her very big luggage not knowing that they’re flying to Borneo to camp for the night. Seeing Sheena carry her luggage as they cross the river is really FUNNY. Katarina, on the other hand, forgets her toothbrush.

“I dont have my toothbrush. I dont have my pajamas but at least i have my panties.” -Katarina

The girls are divided into two groups. Of course, Jodilly, Nicole and Katarina team up while Josephine, Marie, Natalie and Sheena form the other group. After setting up their tents, the girls are served their first dinner in Borneo, maggots. Live maggots.

All the girls are grossed out but they still manage to eat the baby flies. They say that the maggots taste creamy. Katarina says that the head is really crunchy while Natalie needs some soy sauce to complete her meal.

4. Nature Warrior Princess Photoshoot –  The girls are assigned different warrior princess characters . They are photographed in different locations in the jungle by no other then Mike Rosenthal while their make-up is done by a hollywood make-up artist, Rob Scheppy. He does an amazing job in painting their characters. Adam also directs the photo shoot since Joey Mead King is noticeably absent in this episode.

The photoshoot is limited to 10 minutes (not the number of frames). Overall, the girls nail the shoot. The competition is getting tougher and tougher. Even the early favorites are starting to get lost in their poses and facial expressions. At this point, every girl can win Asia’s Next Top Model.

Order of Call Out

Best Photo- Katarina (FCO) Katarina’s photo shows both softness and strength. This is definitely a big leap for the diamond in the rough. Applying last week’s yogo, her poses are now more liquid and flowy. She embodies the character of being a “sun-dancer”

However, we do not believe that the photo deserves the FCO. The photo surely is Katarina’s best photo but some of the girls’ photos are far more dimensional than this. Her right arm could have been stretched to the right to make it appear longer.

Then again, we’re excited on what Katarina will bring next week. With her gorgeous face and improving skills, who knows, she might just win the title.

Jodilly- Jodilly struggles a bit in her photoshoot but when she removes her skirt, she internalizes the inner “hunter” in her. Jodilly’s shape, as always, is great in the photo. The shape that she makes is so angular that it looks like a bow (at least for me).

Our problem with Jodilly is that she still has not given us an outstanding beauty shot. Something that you will stare at for more than 10 minutes. If she nails that, she would be unstoppable.

Sheena- Sheena brings drama as a princess summoning thunder (?). Her facial expressions exude desperation not different to what she actually feels during the photoshoot. The judges like the story that she is giving but do not appreciate her pose. She does not take this lightly and cries during the judging.

What we like most in Sheena’s photo is that she sells the body make-up. The make-up pops alive out of the photo.

Sheena’s persistence is her edge in the competition. Some girls are starting to plateau but Sheena continues to aim to be better.  As she says, she does not want to be stagnant.

We would not be surprised if she eventually becomes the newest Asia’s Next Top Model.

Marie- We’re not sure what character Marie has had but her photo exudes a soft, quiet confidence (as the judges have said). Her photo shoot is one of the toughest since she almost falls into the river. The judges adore the photo. If ever, this could have been Marie’s fourth FCO.

However, the photo is not good enough compared to what she has brought last week. This photo is a bit too lazy for Marie. She could have done riskier poses but maybe, the boat is too wobbly for that.

After Marie’s makeover, she has been unstoppable. Frame after frame, she delivers. If she sustains this momentum, she could also win the title.

Bottom Three: Josephine, Nicole and Natalie

Josephine- Josephine’s character is a frog princess. Kidding! The judges like the photo but it is a bit too safe. It is something that you will expect from Josephine. The face. The pose. The shape and the angles. But it is still a good photo.

Josephine seems to be plateauing. Her photos look the same every week. She needs to find the spark that she once had.

Nicole- This photo is absolutely Blah. Nicole has just laid on the ground with her signature face and body posture. Just blah. Adam notes that Nicole has not followed his instructions during the shoot. Blah.

This is disappointing. Hopefully, Nicole gets back on track next week and we believe that she will.

imageEliminated: Natalie- Natalie struggles with the smoke. Maybe, that’s why her best photo does not show her face. We actually like the photo. It is Natalie’s best photo since the Sporty shoot. The judges commend her movement but her feet and hands are positioned awkwardly. She looked like a rooster in a good way.

Sadly, the judges see more potential in Nicole and Natalie is sent home.

Next Week!

  1. The girls have a beach photoshoot.
  2. Truth or Dare time! (Someone bites someone’s foot, eww!)
What do you think about this episode?
  1. Do you think Natalie deserves to go home?
  2. Do you think Sheena’s luggage is too big?
  3. Where is Joey Mead King?
  4. Does Katarina deserve the FCO?
