#AsNTM3 Asia’s Next Top Model Cycle 3: Episode 7 – The Girl Who Finally Cracks Recap

Amiciness is recapping the 7th episode of Asia’s Next Top Model Cycle 3. There will be a bit of a delay though this week and I am unable to live blog. 😔 I’m currently at a theater workshop with 9 Works Theatrical Stage Camp. (Side note: Watch out for our workshop class as we will be performing “Lucky Stiff” for the first time in the Philippines at the RCBC Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium this May.) Watch for this space though to read the full recap with all of my snark-filled commentary, and more episode deets.

This week, the girls are fighting for a chance to become the next brand ambassador for Subaru. But first, they have to take part in a photo shoot, wearing nothing but body paint. Who among the girls will be in the driver’s seat and who will be thrown under the bus this week?

Watch at 8:45 P.M. on STAR World to find out who are still in the running towards becoming Asia’s. Next. Top. Model. Who will win this cycle’s fabulous prizes? A Subaru XV STI car, a campaign for TRESemme, a cover and spread for Harper’s Bazaar Singapore, and a modelling contract with Storm Models Management in London.

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD. 🙈

We asked you who should’ve been eliminated last episode. And the results are in… you picked Tahlia to be the girl who should’ve been kicked out of the competition. Congratulations, I guess?

Tahlia
“Deal with it!”

Last time on Asia’s Next Top Model, the girls modeled three different looks from the Zalora catalogue in a quick 15-minute photo shoot. Gani won a campaign to be the new face of Zalora. Barbara and Monika found themselves in the bottom. While both disappointed with their photos, the judges gave them one more chance and no one was sent home. But not without a speed bump: only 10 frames for the upcoming photo shoot. Who among the girls will be Asia’s. Next. Top. Model. Cue “Chandelier” opening. Won’t stop on top.

Last week’s brouhaha about Tahlia’s strategic move on Monika continues. Monika confronts Tahlia about it. Tahlia admits that she and the other girls are somehow intimidated by Monika’s performance in the competition. I disagree. For me, the competition is still anybody’s game. Compete with yourselves, girls! Monika and Barbara, being last week’s bottom two get only ten frames each for their photoshoot. Hopefully, Monika doesn’t crack under pressure this time!

The girls have a pose-off in front of Joey and Cara G, top model and TV host, while they critique the girls’ body movements. Amanda fails to stay serious while Melissa picks up the slack from their duo. KB and Tahlia nail the pose-off, working collectively, instead of against each other.

Challenge: Hula-Hoop

The challenge this week is to hula-hoop, pose and not lose rhythm, all at the same time. Melissa gives the most heart and energy. The girl has rhythm alright. She is awarded with a precious phone call home – something the girls haven’t been able to do since the competition started.

Winner: Melissa

Shortly after, Joey pops in the model house and finds the house a horrendous mess – flies are buzzing and rubbish is thrown on the ground. Joey forces the all the girls to deep clean the house so the girls can have a clear mind during photoshoots Top model tip: a clean environment will give you a clear mind

“It’s always nice to have a clean environment, in order to help clear your mind, because when it comes to photoshoots and all that, it’s game on girls.”– Joey on being focused on photoshoots

Photoshoot: Subaru

This week’s shoot was another client shoot. This time with one of the more important major sponsors, Subaru. Hello there, Mr. Glenn Tan (Executive Director, Tan Chong International Ltd.); we missed yah. Last cycle’s Subaru brand ambassadors, Jodilly Pendre and Natalie Pickles made a surprise appearance in body paint, which is the theme for this shoot. Also back from last cycle is Jesper Mcilroy, who is the photographer for this shoot. The girls were asked to evoke a specific emotion wearing only underwear and body paint. Wow! To add pressure to the girls, the winner of this week’s shoot will be the next brand ambassador!

  • KB – energy
  • Amanda – power
  • Gani – power
  • Aimee – wild (Really!?)
  • Melissa – chic
  • Barbara – chic
  • Monika – exhilaration
  • Tahlia – exhilaration

Posing in underwear (but covered in paint) seems to be a problem for both Gani and Tahlia. This is odd. Haven’t they already overcome this fear in the pilot episode? Georgina brings this up but Gani argues that swimwear is different from underwear. In the end, Gani faces her fear and goes for it while Tahlia wears a body suit instead.

Nothing can stop me from being Asia’s Next Top Model! — Gani

KB is jumping and is exuding energy on set and her photos. Amanda lacks strength. She was too playful and a bit tentative. Ugh oh. Blinking problem alert. Don’t worry Amanda! I also have a blinking problem! Melissa is too edgy. She starts roughly and the client called her a zebra. I’ll take that as a compliment (I guess??). Gani epitomizes power. Aimee is not “wild”. She is asked to scream but it lacked power. I can’t blame Aimee. Even I don’t understand how you can portray “wild”. Barbara and Monika, having only ten frames give their best in the shoot. Barbara is edgy and dynamic. Monika on the other hand has taken risks with big poses (i.e. jumping and flipping shots). Tahlia cries before the shoot. She looks unfocused and distracted. This is definitely not a good week for Tahlia.

Back at the house. It’s Monika vs. Gani. #Catfight #Drama. We all like drama and this time it’s about “double-dipping.” Girls, there are bigger issues than this. Editors, really?

Call Out Order

  1. Monika
  2. Barbara
  3. KB
  4. Gani
  5. Amanda
  6. Aimee

The winner is Monika. She will be the new Subaru brand ambassador. BUT WAIT! Mr. Glenn Tan has been so impressed that he decides to select another brand ambassador, which is of course, Barbara. Going from the bottom to the top, good job girls!

Bottom 2: Tahlia & Melissa

Mr. Glenn Tan repeatedly compared Tahlia to a giraffe, which is not a bad thing. I love giraffes. LOL. Nevertheless, he also says that it’s not the worst picture in the bunch. Well, apparently, for them Melissa’s picture is. So she is eliminated.

Eliminated: Melissa

Next Week: Hairriffic Challenge and Immunity!

It’s all about hair in the next episode, and the girl who can flaunt it gets immunity from elimination.

    Favorite shoot this season!
I agree with the judges. Melissa really had gone all wrong this time i think aimee and tahlia must have switched places. I dont like gani’s photo because its too angular for a SUV car. It’ll work better in a sports car i believe. And monica’s photo is popping. Im a fan of barbara’s photo. And i like to see glenn tan everyweek. He’s so cute!
Oh, and i think gani’s just envious and she keeps on finding faults to monika to stress it out. Id like her to stay though because its realyTV, drama is a necessity.
One more thing. If im a client, first sign of hesitation and i will find a new model! Don’t join if you can’t handle it. Its very weak. Im sure the Boey guy from C1 would have a flip in this episode.

I agree with you. This is the most interesting shoot so far. And yes, Mr. Glenn Tan is a great addition to the judging panel. He gives good insights.
Oh you mean, Daniel? Yes, he would have definitely flipped like how he was with Trang. LOL. The cycle 3 girls are lucky he is not there.

    2. koil says:

Monika is so mean. She talked behind gani that indonesian girls will never win this competition. And when gani asked her, she was acting with her crying. That made gani so angry. If she is real winner, i think she shouldn’t say a bad thing to her competitor. I hope gani win this competition and make filipino angry again like cycle 2 (when sheena win cycle 2 and jodily+katarina = runner up). :p

      1. neo ≥o≤ says:

What happens inside of the model house is not part of the ‘competition’ itself. It doesn’t actually matter all that much. The producers are just milking out whatever drama they can find (AKA double dipping and jokes); if anything, their little spats are really helping out in terms of ratings, I guess.

“If she is real winner, i think she shouldn’t say a bad thing to her competitor.” Well, didn’t Gani say bad things about Monika, too? I guess that makes them even, though it didn’t seem like Monika intended to hurt Gani and/or Tahlia with that comment. Personally I think Gani’s just overreacting? The pressure’s getting to her, I guess. Which makes it excusable, to an extent. If they would just talk it out, that would be peachy.

I’m still betting on either her or Monika as the winner though.

“I hope gani win this competition and make filipino angry again like cycle 2”
Ha ha, very mature of you.

Agree Gani is just stiff and can’t hold back with the pressure. She should learn on how to be professional and be competitive and not to bad mouth colleagues. My dear this is a competition.

      2. tina says:

What i’ve heard is monika saying that an indonesian will win this cycle. Not the indonesian will never win. I believe it is neither gani nor monika that’s mean. It is you my dear koil who twists words and notions to make someone look bad. Monika had even said that “hopeless, indonesian will win blahblahblah” during the competition. This is a very childish antic.

        1. countrydv1 says:

No No No Tina…. it seems you’ve got yourself wrong…. I think Monika is someone that is too selfish and feels she was the most important model out of all the girls during the competition, hopefully she is much more humble now!…If Monika ever said (behind Gani’s back) that Indonesian will win, it would have not made Gani angry at her. It simply just didn’t make sense if Gani was angry because Monika wished Indonesian will win ..Don’t mislead with the editing footage of the episode, please!

          1. ralphdaniel says:

Lol! Nobody’s mean! The editors made this up! This is a fake drama!

  2. koil says:
I have been told by my friend, that who is in top 3 final runway are:
    Gani, Monika, and Barbara.
    4th = Tahlia
    5th = Aimee
    6th = KB
    7th = Amanda

So, next week amanda will go home 🙂
1. amiciness says:

Woah! Where do you get all these spoilers? LOL. EDIT: So definitely not a spoiler, it’s just wishful thinking from our dear commenter. 🙂

    2. yayann says:

are you sure? for real? not amanda please 🙁

    3. Anonymous says:

      Now we know you’re lying

  3. koil says:

Amanda has blinking issue. Judges always tell about her problem everyweek. Maybe next week, she will come back with her blinking problem. I forgot who is in 7th place, 80% amanda and 20% KB. But the top 3 are gani, monika, barbara will walk on final runway :). It’s true and I bet.

  4. koil says:

we will see next week. HAHAHA.

  5. baccinnammon says:

to be honest i wanted a double elimination :)))

  6. Lala says:

    It’s scripted, isn’t it?
I mean, I think Gani’s not very good at acting, lol.

I hope the following episodes will show that Monika & Gani will talk it out and ultimately being friend (again?). I like it when they’re being paired in challenges (they both look cute together) and both are the best this season.

I just hate it that this kind of shows like to show (only) conflict to raise the rating, but very rarely their frendship, closeness, nor supporting each other.
I only remembered the one where Barbara would give it up for Monika in the previous episode, which somewhat a pity, though.

Anyway, we don’t know what happened off camera, there are just as many possibilities. Not very mature to judge them only from what is visible (ahem, the script?, ahem).

  7. […] This week on Asia’s Next Top Model Cycle 3, the remaining models were women on a mission in their photo shoot. And they’re finally out of the studio: on location in different parts of the city of Singapore! Who succeeded and who failed in their mission? Here is my own call out order: […]
