#AsNTM3 Asia’s Next Top Model Cycle 3: Episode 6 – Amiciness Picks

This week on Asia’s Next Top Model Cycle 3, the girls posed in 3 different styles wearing clothes from online retail store Zalora. Each girl had 15 minutes to shoot, Tahlia had an additional 5, while Monika had 5 less. Who were on trend and out of style this week? Here is my own call out order:

1. Gani

Well, Gani brought it in this photo shoot. I can’t find flaws. It’s that good. WAIT A MINUTE. Did anyone else notice that what she wore the same outfit she wore during the challenge in the last photo? Plus OMG anyone else notice the shoes? Did she actually wear THE SAME SHOES for all three photos? This could have been to her advantage, making the quick style change easier.

2. Aimee

These are her best photos so far. She’s displaying a different attitude for each frame. Minor flaw with the mouth in the middle photo. But the rightmost frame! OMG I am in love with that jump. If I were to base my ranking on just one photo, this photo would be #1. Unlike Gani’s photos, Aimee’s actually looked like she was styled 3 different ways.

3. KB

She’s continually improving; I’m actually surprised since I ranked her dead last a few shoots ago. Her first two photos are great. Maybe she could’ve been softer with her feminine look in the first frame. For the last one, she looks tense especially evident with her neck. I’m kind of getting Melanie C. vibes from her this time.

4. Tahlia

Out of the 3 girls that wore sunglasses in their shoots, she’s the only girl that used it to her advantage. She’s bringing soft femininity in the first photo and a lot of sass in the last photo. Unfortunately for the middle photo, she’s suffering from dead eyes. There’s a general lack of eye contact in these photos.

5. Amanda

I don’t know why they chose the middle pic as her best for that style: she looks like she’s hungover and about to fall. (I know! She isn’t even legally allowed to drink yet. :D) But the other two photos are good. She really nails the feminine look. But I’m pleasantly surprised that she also nailed her boho look. That hat with her hair is a great style on her.

6. Melissa

I agree with the judges — her poses don’t look catalogue. These aren’t horrible photos, far from it actually, but it just wasn’t right for the theme. Unlike Tahlia’s photos though where she lost eye contact, Melissa is drawing us in with her eyes. She’s super confident in all of her poses. But probably not in the way that was fit for Zalora.

7. Barbara

I know the modeling industry is unforgiving with age. She might look old according to the judges but at the very least she makes her clothes look expensive. And that is an important trait especially when modeling clothes for an online retail store. For these photos, I think the clothes and the styling are also to blame for making her look older.

8. Monika

This set of photos really doesn’t do her justice. She’s supposed to sell the clothes, but I’m not drawn to it at all, and I don’t know where to look. She looks tentative in all 3 photos, definitely flustered by the 10 minutes she was given. A hair flip on that boho look would’ve helped sell that photo a lot more.

A really challenging photo shoot for the girls. It seemed impossible to pose in 3 completely different looks in just under 20 minutes, but most of them managed to do it and take good photos. There are some more stuff that I would like to address about this episode:

Regarding Monika’s “fake”-ness: You can’t judge someone as being fake just by the way she talks. Let’s get it out of the way: She talks like a book. She has a complete sentence as an answer to every question. Most Filipinos speak like that when using English. Which is probably why she enunciates every single syllable… and sounds like a beauty queen.

In Tahlia’s defense, her choosing Monika to get the 5-minute deduction was a strategic move. It didn’t seem personal. Monika has already had 2 FCOs, and of course you would want to handicap your opponent. It is a competition. What Tahlia did was not against the rules. What it reflects on her personality is not that she’s rude; it’s that she’s strategic. Since Gani got FCO this time, I wonder what would have happened if it was Gani that got the time penalty. (Of course that won’t happen since they’re besties. #TeamIndonesia)

The revelation this episode is that Georgina is improving a lot with her hosting. She’s showing emotion. She’s showing genuine concern for the girls, especially while talking to Barbara. I know we had a slow start this cycle, but Georgina is proving to be a great addition to the AsNTM cast.

It’s interesting where this conflict between the girls leads. It’s not all peace and harmony after all in the model house.

Subaru photo shoot! If it’s the same level of greatness as last cycle, then this is a photo shoot to watch. The girls are wearing nothing but body paint! Philippines’ Jodilly Pendre and Taiwan’s Natalie Pickles, AsNTM Cycle 2 models and Subaru’s current brand ambassadors, are back.
