Itaewon Class Episode 13 Recap (Part 1)

Each episode is an hour long so its really takes time to recap each episode but I will try my best. HAHA! #ForDanBam This is just part 1. Enjoy reading!

SPOILER WARNING: Do not read this post if you haven’t watched Itaewon Episode 13 or any of the episode of the Netflix K-Drama, for that matter.

Previously…

In the previous episode, all of DanBam’s potential investors backed out when the lead and major investor pulled out its investments, which was a problem since the crew had already leased out a building, hired additional staff, etc. in preparation for their supposed expansion. This was after Yi-seo’s heart was broken by her boss, Saeroyi. #BossZoned.

To-ni’s grandmother was apparently a real-estate mogul and was the willing to invest 10 Billion Won if and only if, Hyeon-yi wins Best Pub, a cooking competition similar to Master Chef but Korean and all the cooks are from the best pubs in Korea. Hyeon-yi almost quit the competition after being outed as a transgender in an online article masterfully planted by Jangga Co.’s only eligible heir, Geun-soo.

Yi-seo reminded Hyeon-yi that she is strong like a diamond through a poem. #ShineBrightLikeaDiamond. She entered the set in a dramatic fashion ready to win the competition.

Episode 13

Best Pub continues with its third round. While the contestants are cooking, we find out that Yi-seo doesn’t need to tell Hyeon-yi to not give up and fight. Through the poem, she is reminded that she should stay strong for Saeroyi and the DanBam family. The host explains that the judges are not aware whose food they are tasting to ensure more objective results. #BlindTest

The host tries to small talk with the contestants, who are confused where the cameras are. Hehe. He asks Jangga Co. representative. Mr. Park on how he feels. He says that he did his best, as always. When the host asks Hyeon-yi, she takes her time in answering. She says that she has not been in a good mood since a personal matter about her has been made public without her consent. She, then, announces on TV that she is transgender.

The host does his best to adlib out of the awkward situation by saying that winning will help prove herself. Oh no! Hyeon-yi replies saying she doesn’t need anyone’s approval and that she works in the best pub in Korea. Hence, she will also be the best. The show cuts to commercial. What’s the name of this actor? I love him. Haha!

And the winner is… Hyeon-yi. Her reaction is so real and infectious. She runs to the DanBam crew for a group hug.

Chairman Jang meets with Soo-ah and Geun-soo regarding their third consecutive loss. He asks Soo-ah what Geun-soo has done to ensure that Jangga Co. wins. She answers honestly and bluntly (as always) saying that he pushed for the blind testing and pressured Mr. Park to win even though he was not nervous at all. She adds that Geun-soo leaked Hyeon-yi’s private matter. To her surprise, Chairman Jang is a little proud of her son after that. He then asks Geun-soo to leave so he can talk to Soo-ah privately. He wants to know what Soo-ah thinks if he made Geun-soo his successor. She replies with “He’s a lot like you, sir.” He evil laughs. HAHAHA!

Geun-soo sees Yi-seo in the Jangga Co. office lobby. All his happy memories with her flashes back. I miss the good Geun-soo. Huhu. Yi-seo walks toward him and slaps him real hard because of what he did to Hyeon-yi. Yi-seo has found out from reporter friends back when she was a model. #humblebrag. Geun-soo reminds her of what she said to her: “If you desperately want me, you should take over Jangga Co.”. She says that it was just a joke but Geun-soo feels that he still made the right decision. It’s the first time he made a choice for himself. When Yi-seo starts to quote Sae-royi, Geun-soo yells really loud. He is starting to be like his brother or worse. She then dumps him for good.

On her way back, Yi-seo sees Saeroyi waiting for her on their spot. Her face brightens as she walks towards him. He thanks her for all her hard work. Yi-seo leans to get her hair pat. Saeroyi doesn’t know how to react and makes an excuse that they need to draft the contract for tomorrow’s meeting with Ms. Kim. Yi-seo is not offended. Kinilig pa nga ata siya.

Before Ms. Kim has signed the contract, she reminds Saeroyi to keep his word. To become number one in Korea! Back in her office, Yi-seo’s mother sees an article about the 10 Billion Won investment. She realizes that everything Yi-seo said is coming to fruition. And that is how she raised her. #ProudMotherMoment

Back at the Jangga Co. office, Soo-ah tries to comfort Geun-soo after his argument with Yi-seo. She thinks he is worried on what Saeroyi’s reaction will be. She says Saeroyi will prolly say “Whatever you do, I’ll be just fine.” This triggers Geun-soo. It’s the second time today that somebody quotes Saeroyi. He then says that it only made him think of what he can do to take Saeroyi down for good. He is definitely not like Soo-ah.

Back at the DanBam HQ, the crew celebrates their victory. Everyone’s dead drunk. Saeroyi mumbles that they did it because they have each other. He also mumbles stuff about his father being proud of him and how Jangga Co. can all come at him, but he will still beat them. Yi-seo assures him that she has not doubt he will beat them. Saeroyi passes out. This scene shows no matter how strong Saeroyi looks, there is pain inside him. Pain he is holding since his father’s death. Yi-seo knows this.

Back at the Jangga Co. office, Chairman Jang tells Geun-soo that he fired Mr. Park (the chef). Chairman Jang is seemingly impressed on Geun-soo’s Go moves. The game is cut off because of an important meeting. Geun-soo thanks his father for the game but he asks Geun-soo to follow him. He is introduced to the board of directors as his son and future successor. Geun-soo introduces himself and everyone applauds.

Meanwhile, the gangster boss Saeroyi met before is back in jail. All his cellmates bow to greet him except for one, Geun-won. I don’t know if the gangster boss knows him but I do hope so! Geun-won is all fired up after reading in the newspaper about the news about Jangga Co..

Saeroyi, Yi-seo and Ho-joon talk about how they have set-up everything from the company structure to the franchises. They still had 7 Billion Won to spare. Yi-seo suggests they expand DanBam nationwide but Saeroyi aims for something bigger. He recalls how hard it was for him to save 100 million won in the fishing boat. But once he had 100 million, it was easier to make it billions. He mentions that the Korean capital market is interesting. Low risk. High return. Yi-seo asks if he is saying that they should do stocks? Saeroyi shows them an ad for the Shanghai Franchise Expo. He suggests not just to go national but start with China, then the world. He wants to keep his word to Ms. Kim and become Korea’s number 1 so they must act accordingly.
