A year into the pandemic, I think I had already ordered and tried so many different types and flavors of cakes and desserts for friends and family celebrating their birthdays. The challenge for 2021 is to push the boundaries even further.
I don’t bake but I like to conceptualize cakes in my head. Luckily, a friend of mine has been catering my requests (most of the time a little out of the box) and has been executing it perfectly. Just like how I imagined.
For the first cake, it’s for my dear friend, Kim. I don’t think explanations are necessary. Haha! The ombre icing is a standard canvas for The Cake Orchard‘s letter cakes. This make it easier for a simple concept to pop and at the same time be coherent. For Kim’s cake, the color scheme was of course in the shades of pink, purple and white, evoking the colors of the Ru Paul’s Drag Race title card. Googling “drag race birthday cakes” didn’t really yield any pegs that I liked, so that wasn’t much help. We had to get ideas here and there, and combine them into the final design. The photo of the celebrant, a fierce one may I add, was printed on non-edible photo paper to add even more personalization to the cake. Good thing Kim had this amazing photo stalked from his socials that fit the theme. Shantay, you slay indeed!
I really loved this cake. It makes me happy just looking at it. Thanks again to The Cake Orchard for bringing my design to life. Check them out @the.cake.orchard on Instagram.
Tell us what you think. Does this cake deserve to get Ru Paul’s “shantay you stay” or should it forever “sashay away”?Comment down below if you’ve had cakes that were personally designed by you or a loved one!
