Tonight, Asia’s biggest model competition is back in full gear. Cindy from Taiwan, Clara from Indonesia, Maureen from the Philippines, Shikin from Malaysia, and Tu from Vietnam are the last 5 girls standing. The girls enjoy a well-deserved getaway to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, but there is no getting away from the judges’ scrutiny now that an undercover judge joins them 24/7 disguised as a new contestant; and this week, they brave the heat for the longest catwalk challenge, before balancing on ice skates for an editorial photo shoot that puts some of them on thin ice.
While competing in Malaysia might seem like home advantage for one of the contestants at first, the weight of the nation proves too much for her to bear. Back at the hotel, everyone puts the newbie through the wringer. Special appearances by fashion photographer, Bibo Aswan; and creative consultant, Daniel Boey.
Yay! International destination. Oh and Shikin is so going to be Bottom 2 this episode. Will she be eliminated? We’ll find out.
If you haven’t seen the previous episode, check out my Episode 10 post. It’s not really a recap, because what’s the point of recapping a recap episode, right? Not worth the effort, especially because we didn’t really get anything of substance from that episode. The countdown format was super forced. Maybe let’s go back to the interview format from last cycle so we actually get to know the girls better? We didn’t even get any real new footage. SMH 🙄
I’m liking Xiao Qing. I would’ve loved it if they didn’t reveal that she was an undercover judge immediately. I also would’ve loved it if the undercover judge was there from the beginning at the Top 14. Imagine if one of the 14 contestants were undercover, and we only find out that she had been an undercover judge all along during the finale. Now that would live up to the cycle’s “Expect the Unexpected” tagline. At least we’re giving less focus to the schmad-schmirls-schmersus-schmood-schmirls forced drama. The less of that the better.

The girls ride their Subarus to cross the border to Malaysia. The Top 5 & Xiao Qing are staying in a suite at Sunway City Kuala Lumpur. It’s a nice hotel but I still prefer their “AirBnB heaven” model house.
Shikin thinks that Xiao Qung looks like a seasoned model. That’s code word for “old.” 😂 Clara and Maureen notice that she already looks like a top model. Cindy finds the whole situation weird. Maureen worries that Xiao might kick one of the Top 5 out.
Hanging bridge puns in the Cindy mail. Shikin thinks they might go bungee jumping though.
Challenge: Suspended Bridge Runway
They’re on the longest pedestrian suspended bridge and they’ll be on the longest runway of their life. Neutrogena Sunscreen product placement! Skin protection is important, girls!
Xiao Qing is slaying! Showing the Top 5 girls how it’s done! Xiao notes Maureen’s very pretty face but needs to show the emotions in her face. Cindy notes her uneven hand movements. Clara looks like she’s just doing a regular walk. Cindy has a great walk but still looks scared. Shikin decides to work the coat in her walk but gets a bit of trouble handling it. The judges note how Tu is bringing “sexy” too much. “Sorry I can’t control my sexy.” Same here, Tu #storyofmylife. Xiao says that this limits her choices for runway.

Photoshoot: Ice Skating Rink
Immediately after the challenge, the girls proceed to meet Yu Tsai for their next photoshoot. They’ll be doing a “tropical winter wonderland” shoot. And they need to wear skates. Tu doesn’t know how to skate. Yikes!
Renowned Malaysian photographer Bibo Aswan will photograph the girls. Before they get to the photoshoot, the girls are hitting the rink to get a crash course in ice skating. Tu is scared to go on the ice; she’s crying. Maureen, Clara and Cindy look pretty comfortable on skates, Maureen especially.
After their crash course, the girls get to see the full scoreboard for their challenge. Xiao Qing came out on top, Shikin came second, and Clara is at the bottom. Cindy feels super lucky being given a second chance so she wants to prove that she’s here to stay.
Clara is up first. The girls pick a prop for their shoot. We’re getting a totally different Cindy here. Different but still super funny. There’s a bit of misunderstanding: is it “ice queen” or “ice cream”? 😂
Shikin feels the pressure of bringing pride to Malaysians. She seems to be not communicating well with Yu Tsai. This is the first time she cried after her shoot.
Tu immediately falls the first time she steps into shoot. There’s the issue again of her being too sexy. She’s confused because how do you not be sexy wearing swimwear? True. She decides to lay down on the floor and she does better.
Yu Tsai has to be angry again to bring out Cindy’s fierceness. He even yells in Mandarin. (I think? That’s what he said.)
Maureen isn’t giving what Yu Tsai wants. He wants more power. After a bit of motivation, she finally gets it.
Xiao Qing finds out that being a Top Model contestant is hard; this photoshoot more specifically. She just wants to have a good photo to show the girls up. Looks like she’s killing it though. Go girl!
After the shoot, back at the hotel, the girls can’t help but be curious about Xiao. “We’re kind of all not really liking Xiao Qing,” Maureen says, echoing the other girls’ sentiments of feeling cheated that a new girl is added to the Top 6 automatically.
Malysia’s medical tourism ad featuring Tu. Just kidding! She just went to the hospital to check up on her medical condition again.
Deliberation
Daniel Boey joins the panel with Cindy, Cara and Yu Tsai.
Clara nails the shoot. All the judges liked her photo. But Cindy demands that she work on her catwalk.
Tu looked okay. Cindy wants to see Tu’s other side, the not sexy side, more street.
Shikin: Yu Tsai thinks that she wasn’t the “ice queen.” She doesn’t understand her strengths. Daniel meanwhile really loves her photo. Cara loved her working the prop. Cindy is not blown away.
Maureen: the judges loved the beautiful face yet edgy. She looks several inches taller in her photo. Needs more sass and attitude for her catwalk.
Cindy: looks pretty but Daniel thinks it’s not a fashion photo. Yu Tsai is giving all of his emotions because he wants to bring out the best in Cindy, yet she’s scared. This is also true for her catwalk.
Xiao Qing: the judges were disappointed with her photo. I don’t know if this is scripted but they’re really going hard on the criticism. 😂

If the international destination is MALAYSIA, then maybe SHIKIN will win this competition. Afterall, homecourt advantage right??? Right?? Ask Sheena Liam. Lol !!! 🙂 🙂
I like that they are finally giving insights on each of the girls’ walks but i think it would be a huge help if they actually have a runway coach.
1. Maureen- THAT FACE. Her pointed feet and face control are so impressive that it voids the weird left leg. Well done, homegirl.
2. Clara- once upon a time, there was a young enchantress said to be living deep in the woods…. Lol yeah, i cant think of any “clever” things to say, but its nice to see an above average photo of Clara again
3. Shikin- smart move to use spongebobs house as a crown. The only problem is her kneecaps doesnt look very good in that angle(see xiao’s for the correct one) and her cloak cancels out the shape she is trying to create with her legs.
