Songs to Watch Out for in Green Day’s American Idiot

9 Works Theatrical and Globe Telecom are partnering to give you Green Day’s American Idiot. And we won’t have to wait very long to witness this amazing theater experience. But before its opening night this June 24, let’s take a listen at some of the songs that I’m most looking forward to listening live.

5. St. Jimmy

On the first original run of American Idiot, Green Day’s lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong played St. Jimmy. So I’m super excited to hear the Basti Artadi’s take on this song.

4. Wake Me Up When September Ends

This is one of the more subdued and dramatic songs in the show. I’m excited to hear Miggy, Jason, and Nel’s harmonies. Here’s a short clip from the Broadway show:

3. Jesus of Suburbia

Out of all the songs in the original album, this was the one song I felt was meant for theater. It’s one long 9-minute anthem but comprises 5 movements, not too unlike Queen’s classic rock anthem “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

2. 21 Guns

I’ve already got a taste of the Philippine cast’s version of this song during the American Idiot presscon last month. And that definitely got me anticipating the whole production. The cast has big shoes to fill, because the Broadway cast’s version is already amazing, but I’m confident they’re going to make something amazing with the song.

1. American Idiot

Of course I’m most looking forward to hearing the title track. American Idiot opens the musical and knowing how huge the stage is, I’m excited to see how everything will turn out. Here’s a clip from the Broadway show:
