#AsNTM3 Asia’s Next Top Model Cycle 3: Episode 10 – Amiciness Picks

Last time on Asia’s Next Top Model Cycle 3, the models shot their motion editorials/TV commercials for the Subaru Forester. The client Glenn Tan was one of the judges this week, and it was important to him for the girls to portray the brief in the most credible manner. The girls had to play an architect, baker, businesswoman, tennis coach, and yogi. Who topped and who flopped in their commercials? Here’s my own call out order:

1. Barbara

Easy, breezy, beautiful. Her attire doesn’t look like what a baker would wear. But what baker looks as beautiful as Barbara, right? I can’t say this enough, but Barbara really looks elegant and regal in everything she does. That move she does where she puts her hands on her hips then sighs. Love. It. The only flaw of this is that her walk back to her car isn’t as natural as the others. She even looks straight at the camera at one point. Also it’s funny how she just dusts the dough with flour (like a girl finishing an art project with glitter), and then seems to call it a day. LOL. That’s really not representative of the hard day’s work of a baker.

2. Aimee

The spoken lines helped sell Aimee’s being a businesswoman. In her first scene, she’s handing out documents, which seems to signal the start of the meeting. But then she thanks her staff for the successful work, and the meeting has seemingly been adjourned. Shortest business meeting ever! I love the power in her step as she’s walking back to her car. Her second scene is much stronger than the first. I loved that her inspiration was the always serious-looking Glenn Tan.

3. Monika

Does this yoga pose actually exist? I can’t find it anywhere. I don’t understand her emotion in this first scene. Discomfort? Peacefulness? Calm? I can’t read the emotion on her face. She looks really bland. But for her second scene, it’s clear: she’s satisfied after a fulfilling day of yoga, and eager to go to her next activity. Again, as with Aimee, her second scene going to the car is stronger than the first.

4. Gani

I didn’t believe that she was an architect. Like who unrolls the blueprint, brings it up nearer her face, and smirks at it? I would have bought the idea of her being an artist or an art student but not an architect. The way she rode the car gave me the impression that she was a passenger not the driver. She looks stunning especially in the glasses though.

5. Amanda

I actually tweeted that Amanda was portraying a tennis player. I didn’t expect that the brief was for a tennis coach. This is actually the shortest (and sloppiest) of all five commercials, and Amanda isn’t in much of it. It cuts to a shot of the court, then to a shot of the ball hitting the ground (even the way the ball lands is sloppy), then suddenly, we already see the car. Was this really a 15-second ad? Where was most of it? Did Amanda not have usable shots? PLUS her dress is not flattering at all!

Overall, this wasn’t at par with the usual motion editorials in other Top Model franchises. I was expecting high-fashion editorials but in video form. What we got were plain TV commercials that I doubt would be usable in the real world.

Next Episode

We finally find out who made it to the Top 4! Will it be Amanda or Barbara? The mentors talk heart-to-heart with the girls. We look back at what happened this cycle, and the girls face their inner demons. We’re 2 episodes away from the finale! All exciting stuff.
